The ice is melting and water levels are rising…

If the water levels at the Byleddet/Søskovvej measuring station continue to rise overnight we’ll see Fiskeplads go under which is a key indicator to the start of a new flooding event at Brabrandstien.

When Fiskeplads goes under and water levels continue to rise then the lowest walking and cycle paths closest to the waters edge start to be impacted during high tides. The increased water levels in Årslev Engsø and Brabrand Sø start affecting the Åby measuring station closer to Aarhus before finally get to Århus Havn.

The lowest walking and cycle paths closest to the waters edge along Brabrandstien are:

With that being said, “der er ingen ko på isen”. Today the Byleddet/Søskovvej measuring station is showing 103cm with a slow rise in water levels over the past few days, in Jan 2015 that was 170cm and it happened quick!

Here’s some photos from today along Brabrandstien!

Sharing is caring

A few weeks ago I fell off my bicycle on black ice at the bottom of Gellerup Skov and dislocated my shoulder. No more rides for a little while…

This had a knock-on effect that I could not share new photos of the condition of Brabrandstien during this exceptional winter season so I added a new Share a photo! page so site visitors can share their own photos.

Sure enough, the next day a site visitor shared a photo of the new snow along Brabrandstien! How great is that!

Thanks for the shout out Open Data DK!

Gustav from Kastrup Concepts joined to help with data architecture here on Brabrandstien so I’m not hammering this WordPress website’s database collecting and preparing water level data. Jump to 1:05 to watch our mention.

Thanks for the visit Open Data DK

Today Gustav and I caught up with FELT on behalf of Open Data DK to showcase climate projects using open data. Open Data DK have been great to work with to find new data sources and link up with other kommune/municipality resources.

When you gotta go, you gotta go

Brabrandstien is not Riis Skov. We use toilets.

To make life easier for Brabrandstien guests you can filter the Brabrandstien map to show Toilets.

Things to note when it comes to toilets along Brabrandstien.

  • Some toilets are closed during winter so will be hidden during that time of year
  • Some toilets are closed at night so will be hidden during evenings
  • Some toilets are open only during business opening hours
  • Some toilets are limited to customers only

More information and context for each toilet will follow. 🙂

The Filters tab has been added to the top left of the Map page.

What information would you like to see on the Brabrandstien map?

Sweet, sweet organic traffic

Thanks Google! I’ll be adding short description of each Location and assigning a Featured image to help give organic traffic another boost this month.

Here’s the Todo page to see what’s coming up.

Image uploads are go!

You can now upload images directly to the Locations page where you’re seeing a flooded path.

This site is available in both Danish and English but I wanted comments to be shared across both languages. It took some time but after I found the Multilingual Comments WPML (thanks Pieter!) it all fits together nicely!

I’ll add some promient “Upload a photo” buttons to the Map and Locations pages as well as a mobile phone detector to let the site visitor swap between opening the Camera app directly from the webpage or opening their Gallery app.
